Okay so here's my question. I've a new 2015 explorer xlt. If I park or stop on a steep hill and I need to back up I put it in reverse but it doesn't engage and I just roll forward. What am I missing other then perhaps a good transmission?

Welcome to the Forum.:wavey:
Are you keeping your foot on the brake long enough for the transmission to engage? Not sure if that could be an issue.
Also, please add your 'model' (XLT) to your profile so it appears in the margin. Thanks.

If you are pointing downhill and looking to back uphill, most vehicles in reverse will roll forward without pressing on the accelerator. It is no different then being at a red light pointing up hill and letting off the brake... on a steep enough hill, you will roll backwards while in drive.

Yep. And if you're not used to driving a +6,000 pound SUV, they roll a little sooner than a 3,000 pound compact/mid sized car.
