Speaker cable? What speaker cable?

Also, you have to bypass you stock amplifier in the rear compartment. You can buy a harness to do that. Do a search for bypassing the stock amp and you should find the info you need.

2 things

Ok either you dont have the speaker wire on the back of the door speakers or back of cd player wired right or the cd player is messed up all together. I had my alpine lose its sound like you are saying lit up picture everything else worked completely fine. I sent it back to alpine and they repaired it under warranty they said the chips wire for sound came un-sodered. I'd return it if its under warranty. As far as wiring harness go you should have a aftermarket one that clips into the factory cable (silver one) that you are talking about. You can get them from CC or BB for $15. Hope this helps

I might be reading it wrong but I think he didnt even plug in one of the harnesses... so if one of the harnesses is just hanging you need to do like they said and get a harness from best buy or circuit city

Sounds the same to me....maybe did not hook up a wiring harness.

OK

Ok maybe i didnt explain it well enough. The wiring harness that i have comes with 2 etachments that are almost the same. Well i hooked one up fine but there still is another harness donno where it goes it doesnt fit on either radio....So im confused did i purchase the wrong wiring harnest or what? Now something about bypassing the rear stock amp....How do i do that? dont mean to sound dumb but im new at this ...Please any help will do.

I think for the other guys to be able to help you, you need to provide the part numbers of the wiring harness that you purchased. I do not know anything about bypassing the stock amp in Explorer's. Maybe somebody else will be able to help you out with the info you provide.

Your stock radio had two different wiring harnesses connected to it when you took it out, correct?

Your harness that you bought also came with two didn't it? They each plug into one of the stock wiring harness connected to the vehicle itself. Only one of these wires shouldn't have a connection, the dimming wire. (orange)

Your CD player came with a wiring harness that plugs into the back of it, correct? Each wire coming from it connects to one of the wires on the two harnesses that you bought. Every wire coming from the player, except maybe a remote wire and power antenna wire (both blue, possibly with a white stripe) should be connected to the two harnesses you bought.

Other than that, each wire from the CD player should match up to a wire of the same color on one of the two harnesses you purchased.

If not, let us know.

As for the stock amp. There should be a factory amp back behind the passenger rear plastic panel. It needs to be bypassed, which there are harnesses that you can buy to do so. Your stock radio did not have a built in amplifier as your new CD player does. The stock radio had to use an external amplifier, but your CD player has it's own built in. If you do not bypass the external one, your music will sound like crap and could ruin your speakers and amp (in case you ever decide to sell and put it back in).

Wait guys , first lets see if he has the rear amp at all.

XplorerJared, do you have a speaker in the rear cargo area, or a little pouch on the passenger side that has a net to hold stuff in? If you don't have the speaker, you do not need to worry about bypassing any amps.

The Explorer itself has two radio harnesses coming out of the dash. They both have a connector on the end that looks like an L on its side....See the picture below.

One should be grey and black and has 8 wires coming out of it. This is for the speakers... Do you have two connectors that look like this coming out of the dash? You have to hook the 8 radio speaker wires up to the grey connector......

I was under the impression that all Explorers had the external amplifier. My '97 does, as did my '95. I saw them. Neither has/had a sub in the storage compartment.

The low end ones do not. Maybe after 95, they changed that, but up to then they didn't use one with plain tape players and Am/Fm radios. I think only the "Premiuim sound" and JBL in 91-94 had them.

All of my families Explorers have no amp.

Wait those wiring harnesses that you are holding are totally different than the ones i have....wish i can take a picture...the one coming from the stock radio which is for the speakers is a small balck one and the one for teh power is black also.

ok i just went and looked at my stuff in the back and the two wires you are talking about one is round and has a metal pin at the end this is what should be plugged into the cd players power connection which youve done if it turns on. This is the part i believe you are missing there is another black wire with a metal box connector that has like 12-15 small holes this is where you need to plug in the wiring harness so you can hook up the speaker wires coming from doors to the speaker wires coming out of the back of your cd player. If this is already done than its the headunit it self and should be returned asap. The ones in the pics earlier are the factory harness for power antenna,12 volt constant, ignition, ground, dimmer, etc and the other one is for the speaker wire like he said. If they look differnent it may be because the previous owner had a wiring harness in there already at least mine did. If you really want us to help you you need to get a pic or sumthin cause its hard to explain to someone. Chances are its something little and is staring you in the face ;)

Ok, guys thanks for all your help but theres noting i can do i took the CD player over to BB and had them look at it....The wiring harness that i had was not the right one....But the whole problem is that the CD player is missing a couple wires on the back so i cant connect the Amplifier which i have a Harnest for....The CD player was bought off my friend about a year ago i was just toooo lazy to install it myself....O well...ill wait and get a better one and have BEst Buy install it for me....So it can save me the Headach....Thanks though:)
