alright, despite my self-professed audio installation genius i'm stumped.

i have tried 5 different ground and power lead combinations and i just can't get the head unit to power up. the little fuse looks fine and the head unit has to be good (its brand new).

i hooked it up so that the memory lead was hooked up and then so that it wasn't hooked up etc. (tried a million combinations)

i have the rca's from the unit going to my eq- but then no outs from my eq at the moment (but that shouldn't matter) i'm not looking for sound, just powering up.

any guesses as to why it isn't working? could it be that the ground isn't good enough for the hu? but is good enough for the other stuff i've tried

SHOULD just be the ground, continous and ignition switched wires to be concrned about. i always plug the antenna in too but then just turn on the car and hit source...but you already knew that.

it does sound dumb, but on almost every pioneer i have put in, i forget to hit source to turn it on and wonder why no power. i would also pull the faceplate and put it back on...sometimes they are a little loose. slo, i have heard of some HUs having that screw that holds the insides in lace, you know, the one you have to remove when installing sometimes, i have heard of that preventing power but i dont think pioneers have that..cant remember what brand it was.

it is possible to be bad (brand new) i would try hooking it right to the battery to see if it works. that should tell u if ur ground is bad i think

yeah, i'm not using any of the harness other than- ground, continuous power (memory) (yellow), and ignition power (red). thats all i'll ever be using actually since i have the eq and amps for everything.

i just feel like a moron right now though, nothing i do works. i think i may just go out there and lay a new power for it all the way from the battery, a new ignition on switch and a new ground- but i was really hoping someone had a better idea. i came in to post while i was working on other stuff, but my subs are in and ready to go now so i need to get the hu and eq going.

like i said, never run into it before...are you positave the hu is good? i am sure you thought of it but if you have another vehicle to test in, or at least swap out the fuse to double check it. this is why i use harnesses instead of hardwire...i have never run into this and there is no wondering if you did it right.

i have the harness actually... just no need for it since i only need those three things.

hmmm.... i am clueless. did you try liek one of the other guys said and hooking it right to the battery?

Yep Drew, grab an inline fuse, twist the red and yellow wire together, then hook em to to the fuse, then hook it up to the battery, then hook up the ground...if that doesnt work, get a new HU!

agreed

If you're in a bind (which sounds like you may be), twist the red and yellow wires together for the purpose of testing and hook them both to a +12 source and ground out the black wire. Make sure the antenna is plugged in! I did an install on a friend's Cro Vic'cer and it wouldn't work when i was test installing it without the antenna. Good luck :)

well it works now. i just added a new 8 gauge power and ground and everything is fine except the smallest fuse i could find in my garage is 20 amp so i need to find a smaller one
