I just bought a 5 inch Eclipse component set for the front door speakers and I just wanted to know if anyone had suggestions on how to build plates, I was thinking of getting a piece of thin MDF tracing the speaker around it then cutting it out, mounting and putting it on. When I mount it, the piece is just a rectangle and screwed into the factory spot? Thanks in advance.

In his best Ed McMamon "You are correct sir, hay-o!" Thats how we in the biz do it. MDF is the way to go. Good strength with less material.

Medium Density Fiber board it basicly particle board but does'nt fall apart as easy. You can get it at any home improvement wharehose.

Hey Ryan

I just built some new baffles for my front speakers this weekend. What I did was trace the old Ford speaker onto a piece of MDF and cut it out, then traced the new speaker on the baffle and cut a hole for it. I then wrapped the baffle in sound deadening material, mounted it to the door, then mounted the speaker in it. My speaker was 6.5", so I had to make the baffle slightly larger than the factory speakers, but since you have a 5.25" speaker, you shouldn't have that problem. Oh, and I put these things called Cascade Audio deflection plates behind the speakers. They are round rubber-looking pads which are put on the metal of the door and absorb the rear wave of the speaker so you don't get resonances inside the door. They're only like $30/pair. Between the deflection plates and the baffle, I have incredibly tight, accurate midbass. Good luck!

peace

Mike
