I've ordered the MTX 10" sub enclosure and am planning to use my son's Rockford Fosgate amp-I also already have a Kenwood HU. I haven't decided yet if I'll tackle installation of the amp and sub myself or have it done at a local audio store. I was told that whatever I decide on installation, I should buy my cables and wires before hand because they usually jack the price up. I looked on ebay to get ideas and now I'm totally flustered. They had over 5000 wiring items-all brands and prices. Now, I need your help to narrow it down. Here's what I found--Most prices ranged from $10 to $50 plus S&H (retail value from $30 to $100). Brands included--Thunder, Monster, EFX, Stinger, Scosche, Pyle, Audiobahn, Phoenix Gold, Rockford Fosgate, and some others that I knew weren't quality or totally out of my price range. Should I get a complete amp install kit? Or get it all separate? 4 gauge or 8? How many watts should it accomodate? Will I need new speaker wire? What will be neccesary to install and hook-up the sub?
As you see I know virtually nothing but do want better sound quality for a reasonable amount of money. Please help!!!

you should be fine with 8 gauge if you're only powering the 10" mtx, if you're doing the install yourself i'd get a complete kit - I used a stinger kit that came with the RCA's and all the wires - everything was long enough to reach the back of the X and came with plenty of connectors. If you have the equipment installed i'd try to bargain with the shop, most are willing to deal and this time of year they shouldn't be to busy.

You will not need new speaker wire. Is the kenwood HU installed already if not you will need an adapter for the new HU and a wiring harness to bypass the factory amp.

Well I know I'm going to try to install this myself-they want $75 plus wires to hook this up. I've laid hardwood floors, ceramic tile, etc. so with some help from you guys, I'm going to give this a shot.

Okay, if you're doing it yourself then get a good 8 gauge kit that includes everything you need, when you run the wires to the back do a search, there have been some good posts on where to run them.

For a good wiring kit take a look at the stinger SWK8R Dead Link Removed
buy whatever brand you want but it should have all the same basic items.
