hi everyone..hope one of u can help me!u all seem to have a lot of knowledge on these great cars!
i have a 1997 explorer..they ran these in the uk from 1997-2001..problem is not that many garages here have a lot of experince with them as they r quite rare..especially where i live!
i have a grinding from front wheels whilst at slow speed..car park manouvering..turning off forecourt etc..
it also kind of "clunks"..sounds like a drivetrain or wheel bearing??anyone had the same problem?
also the hi/lo 4x4 lights are flashing 6 times..i understand that this indicates a fault code?
Also there is a loud ticking from the timing chain..i understand that this can be fron the pipe running engine oil 2 chain getting blocked and running dry due 2 dirty engine oil?is this true and how can it be fixed?
thank you for your time and beleive me it is much appreciated!!

If your front end noise is while it's in 2 WD, then yes you should suspect a wheel bearing. If in 4Wd, then check the hubs & U joints for the front axles.

As for the timing chain... you should do a search for the problem on this site. This website has more to offer than any other.

Good luck!!

thankyou rocco...ill try wheel bearing first then go from there!it seems to happen no matter what drive mode im in.
regards
chris
