Please see the attached photos. Should there be trim covering the channels leading back from the windshield?

Two shops indicated there should be trim in these two channels, one driver and one passenger side, which extend along the roof from the windshield to the rear of the vehicle.
I have never seen trim in this area.

Mine does not have trim in those "channels" -- I think they're a modern day 'rain gutter' to direct rain away from the doors and direct it to the front and rear. Also, I'm the second owner of my Explorer, I purchased it in 2004 -- so it's not likely someone removed the "trim". I don't think it matters but my luggage rack is a little more extensive than that one -- and I do have the moonroof also. But I think your two shops are wrong.
