plug and wire change now it dont start as well

Hi everyone i changed my plugs and wires (mtorcraft and autolite dbl plat)
changed the oil mobile 1 syn and now it takes a coulple of secs to start it runs good but before it started almost instantly the plugs that were in there were in very good shape autolite plat but they were gaped at 44 the new ones i gaped at 54 should i wait to see what my next tank shows for milage i was only getting 12 mpg or should i pull em and set them back to 44 like the old ones

try it and see if the milegae changes,, mine take a few seconds to start too, but it also runs well after it gets running,,,
having a wider gap makes the spark a bit hotter, could be a mileage diference maker,,
