In the process of changing the clutch on my '94, and the back of the engine is covered with oil. The good news is, I saw no evidemce of oil on the old pressure plate anywhere, or on the face of the flywheel.
The rear main seal is an obvious suspect, but will oil from leaking valve covers make its way into the bellhousing?
It was flung all the way to the top, where the core plug is, if that helps diagnose. I'm not sure oil from a leaking main would fling that high, but maybe.
I got too focused on drilling out one of those awful exhaust crossover bolts that broke off in the manifold to really take a good look at the back of the valve covers before it got dark.
I suppose I'll change the rear seal for good measure, avoiding having to deal with those awful exhaust bolts alone is enough to justify it.
Let me know what else I should look for.
