I just changed the following gaskets:
all for the intake manifold
both valve covers
IAC, and new IAC valve
EGR valve

and after all that I still have this knocking in the engine compartment at idle. Two noises actually; one sounds like metal clanging against metal, and the other sounds more like a "knock" and seems to be more internal. Could these be the product of valve clatter? I did not take the rocker arms off and inspect them when I had the valve covers off, but there were no apparent gaps that could be seen. I found a great deal on a new set of rocker assemblies with push rods, so I plan on replacing them anyways, but I was wondering if that could be the cause?

If you are going to do the rocker arms/shafts/pushrods you need to contact Delta Cams in Tacoma WA. They have a complete kit for the job (reworked arms with hardened pushrod seats, heat treated tips that ride onthe valves, and new pushrods) that only costs $108.00 exchange!!! They have a link on this site!

lol, that is the place I found the great deal!

Until 1997 I lived in Winston-Salem, was there for twelve years before moving back home to WA. I live twenty minutes from Delta Cam and work five minutes from them.
