So my 06 Explorer is doing something "stupid" for the past few months. When I get home and shut the engine off, and leave the car unlocked, it will keep "unlocking" all the locks every 30-40 seconds (doors are unlocked anyway). When I lock the car, that takes care of the problem 95 % of the time, and the car does not try to unlock itself, it did few times but I noticed that if I lock it twice using the key fob ( I hear chirp twice) it will stay locked. I checked all the latches around, and they are not stuck, I replaced the master lock (the whole pad in the the driver door with all the lock controles), but it still does it.

Any suggestions ?

Thanks

Chirp twice means it sees a door ajar, its a door ajar switch thats the problem, but without having access to a Ford IDS, its almost impossible to figure out which one it sees open. By you saying that it keeps unlocking the doors, is it all doors or just the drivers door?

if a door switch was in the open state, the dome light would stay on, also there would be a signal to the dash saying door ajar, do you have these problems? is there an after market alarm installed? I think i would start looking at the drive side door key cyclinder, put the key in and lock and unlock a few times, maybe there is some sort of corsion at the switch, maybe the switch is a half way stuck frozen up in NY,

or

check the obvious, the door ajar switches and hood pin switch, you can test them by locking the car and let the factory alarm set and reach in thru the windows and open the door, do that with every door and gate, hood ect. the horn and lights should start beeping and flashing,

Try spraying wet grafite in the key switch, and run the key in,and out,a bunch of times,

also shut off the setting when you drive the doors automatically lock and unlock when you shut off the truck.
I just checked the Owner's Manual for my '07, and the procedure using the key and door lock switches is the same as listed above. There are also two other DIY ways to disable the autolock system.

Keyless entry keypad method (pg 140):
1. Close all doors and rear window and ensure ignition is off.
2. Enter the 5 digit entry code.
3. Press and hold the 3-4 button. While holding the 3-4 button, press the 7-8 button.
4. Release the 7-8 button.
5. Release the 3-4 button.
The horn should chirp once to indicate that the system is disabled.

Message Center Method (pg 108):
The feature is listed under the Setup Menu on the message center.
1. Press and hold the Select/Reset control button to enter the Setup Menu.
2. Press the Setup/Reset button to scroll through the settings to AUTOLOCK.
3. Press and hold the Select/Reset control button to turn the AUTOLOCK feature ON or OFF.

also hold down the lock and unlock button on the key fob for thirty second at the same time you will hear a click at the smart junction box and all the door will unlock and lock at the same time instead of pressing the key fob 2x's to unlock all the other doors
