For the past 2k miles, my truck has been harder to steer. I dont know if its from the fluid needing to be change or if the pump is going bad. My moms expedition steers like a charm but when it comes to my truck it takes a bit more to steer. Do 99 explorers have problems with power steering pumps?

You might be low on fluid, is there a noticeable whine, above the "normal" Ford whine? I'd change the fluid and add some lucas steering treatment. Not only did that quiet mine down but helped the steering become a bit smoother.

Well I do know how to add fluid but how do I drain the fluid so I can add fresh fluid? Also, how much fluid should I buy?

there really isnt a way t ocompletely drain it, the best method is a turkey baster or some sort of fluid suction pump.. then jsut repalce it till its full... i forget how much the system takes but it really isnt much at all

Does it really need to be fully replaced after 100k miles or remove just enough to add that treatment?
