I have a rear wheel bearing that needs replacing. I searched some old threads and got quite a variety of answers for a typical price, and also old threads etc.

Just got quoted $650 (CAD) for this job ...that really sounds way over the mark to me. I was thinking it would be around half that.

Anyone know a ball park figure? thanks

Ten months ago, I had the right rear wheel bearing go out. I took it to a well known tire and repair store, they replaced the bearing and the hub -- $324.00 labor and parts.

Hi! I just had this done on mine today and paid $590 (US) but that also included a new e-brake. Hope this helps.

thanks for the replies, think i'll try a quote from somewhere else. The parts alone can't be too much, surely.

I called 4 shops when I got mine done. Highest was $650, lowest was $550. Prices are after tax.

Part is close to $300 and 2 hrs labor everywhere I called. You can lower the price by ~120-150 if you get a low quality bearing but I don't think that's worth it.

Edit: prices in AB, CAD

Do you know if it's just the bearing that gets replaced, or is it a new hub assembly?

I've seen things like this around.. http://www.thewrenchmonkey.ca/auto-...mbly/timken/?gclid=CMP4iMSizsMCFQlffgodDm8A5A

Not sure if that's a low quality bearing or not.

Called Canadian Tire just out of curiosity and they said 2.3 hrs labour ($225) plus cost of bearing, which he's finding out for me.

Best i've been quoted so far is $500.

I was told by my local Ford dealer they do it $400 per wheel.

OK, might give them a call just to see. If not, i'm thinking about giving it a go myself - I can get the part for $130 (CAD) locally so would save a lot if I could do that. If I replace the hub assembly, not just the bearing, I guess I wouldn't need the hub puller to take the old hub apart, which should make the job easier..perhaps..?

Buy a national brand bearing, they are the best available. At my shop I charge $200 parts and labor for just the rear bearing and if the hub has damage then I just add the price of the part. You will need access to at least a 20 ton press to remove the bearing from the knuckle.

I had the rear right bearing replaced this last fall for $314.52 including tax and an oil change here in Ontario. I do most of my own work but not worth it for the rear bearings at this price considering the amount of work involved and without a hoist or press.

Just to chime in - I had right rear replaced 3 weeks ago. I bought the part off the internet $180 CAN( bearing and hub assembly ) with tax, and labor cost $248CAN with tax at my local shop ( BC ).
The Official Ford bearing is waaaaay over-priced. - I just saw, yeah, its the Timken assembly you listed. Seems fine.
(Ryan, I just noticed you're in Revelstoke..I'm driving the exploder there tomorrow !! )

Ok, so I know this is probably pointless but just trying to see anyone's opinion as to where I stand...
So I ordered a rear wheel bearing hub assembly - ford garage actually said they'd fit it for me. I was told by another garage it was a rear bearing going, and also someone else told me the same. So I told Ford I think it's the rear bearing.
They had trouble diagnosing which side it was, but eventually opted for one side. Anyway, they fit the bearing, and it's not fixed. They then think it;s the front - so I asked if they checked the front before they started and they said they didn't notice anything bad about it.
Had to pay still for fitting a bearing which was pointless - and now will have to pay again for a front bearing. I'm kind of annoyed that they couldn't figure out which bearing it was before fitting....they claimed that the one they replaced was making a bit of noise but the car is absolutely no different what so ever.

i can't help but feel a bit cheated, and really can't afford to pay again for the front. Has anyone got any advice or opinions on this? Surely Ford are at fault here?

I had to replace my left rear bearing at the end of January and even though the bearing is relatively inexpensive, the process to replace the bearing is where they get you. I paid about $550 at Merchants but that was with an oil change and a couple other small parts that I needed.

Lol, I threw a 60 dollar front hub from prime choice autoparts on mine 2 years ago and haven't had a problem yet. Hour long job if you soak the bolts the night before in PB blaster. Just make sure you have a big torque wrench to do the cv bolt.
