Problem, any ideas?

i have a 2002 ford explorer 6 cylinder with 112k miles. this is my first four wheel drive and love it. i have a problem, if i hammer the gas from a stop i get a popping/ hard clunking sound from the drive line (its not the engine). yesterday i was on a 5% grade on grass and was backing up. the explorer would rev-go no place- than back up in a surging type of motion, i would hear the clunk ever second or so just prior to it moving. any ideas? thanks

Welcome to this forum! I would recommend that you replace the solenoid block, flash the PCM, and install an upgraded tune.
