I'm considering buying a KURTZ KUSTOMZ MOTORSPORTS induction system for my 5.0. I have about 38,000 miles on it and plan on getting 200,000+ on it. Do these type of systems shorten the life of an engine? I have a friend who was saying that there is a higher risk of sucking some debris into your engine w/ one of these system, possibly cracking a cylinder head  . I'm not sure I believe him, what do you guys think?

Hi 302Xplorer:

The new filter used by the KKM is not protected by an airbox, like the factory one, so there is an increased risk on ingesting water if you drive in deep water a lot. If you do that, maybe you should consider a snorkel. Other than that, I'd say there's no more risk to your engine from the cone-style filter than the factory one.

Regards,
John.

I can avoid deep water, I think I'll go ahead and order one. Anyone know the estimated gains w/ the v8?
