Problems with new motor in the X

First the battery light came on and then I noticed the temperature was all the way on hot and there was no power steering. I coasted off the highway and looked under the hood. The motor was over heating, the fan and belts were not moving, but the motor was still running. It still starts but the fan and belts do not move and there is still no power steering. So now I got it towed to my house. What does this sound like to you all from just hearing the symptoms?

Sounds like either you have a broken crankshaft end or broke a pulley somewhere. If the motor still ran it sounds pretty scary.

thanks hermitrl, nobody else has any idea? right now i guess im just worried about how much this might be, cuz i just put the new motor in...

Is the pully on the crank turning?

Something siezed up by the sounds of it. either the alt. or the water pump, or the tensioner pully holding the belt from turning thus no volts, no water movement= overheating.

what is the tensioner like? if it's not holding tension, the belts wont do anything, there for not driving the water pump, charging system, or power steering pump.

Main question I think is, is the crank pully turning, he has a new engine, is a darn good chance the serp belt is not routed correctally, I hope thats the problem as busted cranks where the pully attaches are not unheard of

hey thanks guys, it was a broken tensioner. real quick fix. im lucky there are no motor problems from running it a bit while it was overheating.

Change your oil TODAY .... you don't want to score up a new motor with overheated bad oil just to save 20 bucks or so .... might not hurt to check the tranny fluid for overheating too ....

I've seen a lot of people ruin their engine by not changing their oil immediately after overheating or flooding the engine when it's really cold ... even buck a quart oil and a 2 dollar filter is better than the burnt overheated crap you have now ...
