Replaced my auto hubs ('92 X) with manuals yesterday, and some noises did clear up. However, there still seems to be a problem with the passenger side halfshaft. The wheel spins freely and doesn't bother the axle, but when I spin the axle, it binds up once each turn. It appears to spin freely if the wheels are pointed straight forward, but will bind if they are turned. The left halfshaft doesn't exhibit any binding. I've still got some things I want to look into, but I thought I'd see if anyone here has any ideas.

How are your axel u-joints?:D

that was my first thought, too. They make no noise. Any ideas for testing/inspecting them? How hard is it to replace the u-joints on the axle? From the manual it looks like I would need to remove all of the wheel and spindle and such. I repacked the wheel bearings a few months ago; How much harder would it be to keep going until the axle comes out?

Mine looked good too untill I took them apart and there was no needle bearings in them at all,the u-joints are not that hard to replace it just sucks that you have to take everything off too do them,I think the passengers side shaft you will have to change the inner u-joint while it is still on the truck I made a special c-clamp to do the job all the other ones are easy, make sure you grease your slip yokes on the shafts before reassembling.Hope this helps:D

It is not hard to remove the front driveshafts, just more work. If I remember correctly, you do have to remove the spindle. Then removed the rubber boot and it should slide right out.

I forget exactly what you have to do, but I did it in about an hour two years ago.
