I picked up a low mileage 2002 that needs a little interior cleaning. I have had good luck with other vehicles removing the seats, soaking with upholstery cleaner, and then hosing them down. I always like to make sure there is not an airbag sensor that could cause the airbags to deploy while removing the seats. Typically I disconnect the battery, unplug anything connected to the seat, and then remove. Does anyone have any info I should be aware of before removing? I have not pulled seats from a Ford before.

Does anyone know the torque specs for the bolts holding the seats in place? I appreciate and knowledge shared. Thanks in advance.

Do the seats have airbags in them? It would be labeled and the seats would most likely be leather.

No airbags, just unplug and remove the seats. I try to make it a policy to disconnect the ground before touching electrical, as replugging things in hot, can cause some electronics to 'pop.'

I suggest removing all seats and the console, then take the carpet out and clean it that way. I did it using the hand wand on my carpet cleaner. Pretty easy.

As far as torque specs, either determine it your self using a torque wrench, or just tighten them manually. If you've wrenched enough, you can generally tell when you are about to over tighten something. Flat and secure is all these really need.

Thanks Number4 for your response. The seats do not have airbags and they are cloth. I don't know how the airbags(in the dash) are setup and prefer to be safe than sorry. Disconnecting the battery has always worked in the past but I wanted to verify Ford didn't have a sensor that would cause the computer to think the vehicle had been in an accident when I reconnect everything.

I would like to spray the carpet down also, but I didn't know how much interior trim would have to be removed to get it out. I don't really want to gut the whole interior.

I have done a fair amount of wrenching and have become a stickler for using factory torque specs. I guesstimate if I can't find the info online.

the torque spec is German Spec: gutentight.

Something like seats aren't partial to a specific torque spec. Tighten them down and then really get after it. They are pretty big- they can take it. The bolts probably have some blue loc-tite on them.
