Question for those that replaced the rear hatch panel themselves

If anybody purchased one of the unpainted (Dorman or otherwise) hatch panels for their 3rd gen and did ALL the work of replacing it yourself, what kind of adhesive did you use to secure the new panel onto the hatch frame?

I've seen a couple videos that show adhesive strips already on the back of the panel...I'm assuming that's actually the Ford piece. Is it best to use the adhesive double-sided tape like that, or should some sort of glue be used like silicone RTV or the like?

Just curious. I'm considering replacing my cracked panel at some point and am thinking of doing the whole process myself (even a cheapie rattle-can paint job).

I used 3m double sided tape and a gasket sealant (black rtv) to seal the top portion only. It's been holding up fine since I installed last October of 2015.

I believe 3M VHB Double-Sided Acrylic Foam Tape is what is recommended.

Good ole GE Silicone II. LOL
