Recently bought a T reg Explorer but there was no manual so I have a wee question - the overdrive light should it be on or off, and when i.e. on the motorway.

I have searched through numerous manuals but keep coming up with what seems to be the US version with refs to the O/D off light whereas mine is a orange circle thing in the bottom right corner of the dash.

Also cruised the forums and seem to be more about issues with it flashing, which thankfully mine isn't doing.

Any help appreciated.

When the O/D warning light is lit, it usually means overdrive has been switched off.

The warning light is there to give you a visual warning of such, otherwise the only sign you've hit the switch and turned it off would be the higher RPMs at speed or if you counted shifts.

Thanks for the help. You may see a lot more questions from me, having being completely sucked in by the site in the space of 10 mins and not knowing nearly enough about my car!

Welcome fortunesfool
you've found the button on the lever for the overdrive yes??
Basically you would only need to turn it off if towing or doing some serious hills. General driving, motorways, normal uphills, etc just leave it on.

the button for the over drive is on the side of the gear lever

also having o/d light on means the clutch stays on, good for engine braking on down hills.
