Is this Possible??

I recently purchased a 1995 Ford explorer with the factory JBL premium sound system, It has the four premium speakers, 6 cd changer, and the 6 inch sub in the back quarter panel if anyone is not firmilar with this system. Anyway, I want to upgrade somewhat., I want a lot of bass so im considering getting 2 12 inch subs with a good sized amp. My question is, can I keep the factory head unit and speakers, and still have the extra equipment?? It already has 2 factory amps one for the speakers and one for the sub, behind the the panel. Will I have to disconnect them before I can hook another amp and subs up? Is it even possible to do with the stock head unit and speakers?? Thanks a lot in advance..

i think its possible but i went ahead and bought a cooler looking one, just for the sake of buying one :-) how does that stock sub bump?

Suprisingly, it actually sounds rather nice. But being the person I am, I want more.........

do the speakers for premium sound got cross overs?

Dont know....

You can actually connect amp to your existing stock radio by using I believe the item is calleda remote rca connection. You basically have to connect to a few wire behind your radio along with the other wires. that have to run to your new amps

I would take the signal from the input of your factory sub amp to run into your new amp. No the factory speakers do not have outboard crossovers like seperates do

Personally I always say, if u dont use the soft tissue paper, depend on your ass gettin raw. if u know what i mean

Come on keep them replies comin...:)

Just as Brian said, you can either splice from before the amp and put that signal to your new amp (you'll have to connect your own RCAs) or you can get the Line Out Converter that goes after the amp. You splice it in and the converter sports some RCAs that you can use to connect to the amp.

Of course if you get an amp with high-level inputs, you can just splice the speaker wire right into the amp. It's your call.

After that, you just have to ID the remote line lead and put that to your amp - unless you amp has auto-sensing and turns on by itself (not a standard feature in most amps yet).

It all depends in how much work you want to do. Besides that, you're installing the same as any amp from scratch. So to sum up your questions:

1. Yes
2. No
3. Yes

Thanks, JT.
