Have a question for someone. I have kind of a grinding sound from my front end when in 4 wheel, but heres the thing. Its only really noticeable when i apply the brakes. I replaced a couple of u-joints when i had my front end apart ( 1 of those being outer passenger joint) but left the outer driver u joint alone cause it didn't feel bad, but now im suspecting that it is the problem. Just wanna know what someone here thinks. I am thinking that maybe feel alone doesn't diagnose a bad joint. Being that it gets worse when i put on the brakes makes me think it is bad as well. Couldn't be the spindle bearings could it? They seemed great, and now greased as well. Thanks.

Well, I think I would start with checking the calipers, pads and rotors if you notice the sound when applying the brakes. Perhaps you have a rock lodged between a pad and a rotor? Lubricating the caliper slides wouldn't be a bad idea, while you're at it.

Good Luck - Dave.

Its not the brakes, this happens only in 4 wheels drive. When its not in 4x4 everything is fine, which tells me its in the driveline. The rotors are new, calipers are fine, pads are great and everything that needs lube is lubed. I even replaced my caliper slide pins, which i must say, makes a big difference in the performance and feel of the brakes. Just like the bushings the rubber wears out too. The noise is there even while im not braking, just not as bad as when i brake, so im thinking its the outer U-joint thats making noise. When i brake it gets louder because of the different forces on either side of the joint from the axle. What do you think?
