Can you hide the stock key up in the dash and then just you a plain copied key to start it?

someone here said you could remove the chip from the stock key and glue it in the steering column, near the key switch, and then use a regular key. i don't know if this would work, but it might.

Just wondering.
I have two good keys so i'm all right but if it does work I would get some plain copies and use them.

But I think someone said it's cheap to get the good keys as long as you have two..why would that be?

yes, as long as you've got 2 good chipped (aka RFID) keys, you can program additional chipped keys yourself and you can by them off ebay pretty cheap. it's a bit like programming remote key fobs. it tells you how to do it in the owner's manual. just be sure any keys you buy look exactly like your keys (the black plastic part).

Ok..not sure why you would need two has opposed to one..I'll have to look into it while i have two!

I have aftermarket remote start which works fine. So I have 4 remotes!

Anyways as soon as I start the thing up all my doors lock without even going into gear.
I can live with it but it can be annoying if others want to get in after it's running..I have to hit the unlock button all the time.
Any idea how to stop that?
Do you think it is part of the factory deal or the aftermarket starter?

Everything else is perfect!

do you have the external key pad on the driver's door? if you do there's a procedure for turning off the AUTOLOCK feature, although this may be caused by the aftermarket starter. again, the owner's manual has the procedure. i have an extra 2001 owner's manual set (in the case) if you need one.

Chit..never thought about looking at that..yeah I do have one and did glance at it before but not for this reason.
But yeah I have the key pad and love it.
At least 3 times now I have started the car then ran back into the house or garage and the damn door locked with the car running..wife has other set..but the keypad got me in!

When we go out with the kayaks or swimming..both can happen at the same time I just lock the keys in the car.
I even do it when we tow the sleds somewhere to snowmobile.

Try it. I have a stamped key for my 2012 GM work van I keep in my wallet and that will start and run the van if my regular super-expensive chipped key is left on the dash.

I also wonder how the aftermarket remote start gets by the pats.

good question. it must bypass the power to the fuel injections from the pcm. i believe that's what pats turns off.

There are two types-the cheaper and simpler kit uses a small box in which you place a coded key (could be blank/uncut but must be coded to the truck). This is what I had in my Windstar. The more expensive system taps into the myriad of 24 ga. wires under the dash, and this one I was not willing/able to tackle.

i bet the remote starter has an option for the door locks. they have a ton of options. download the manual and check how to change it.

the remote starters do tap into the 'hot in start' and 'hot in run' wires under the steering column. and several others like the brake on/off switch.

when you touch the brake, you will hear the relays in the remote starter box click and hand off the power supply to the factory wiring. IF you have the key on. if not, the engine shuts off.

whatever the pats system shuts down must be powered from the remote starter.

Yeah I can do the doors with that remote also.
I don't think it says on the fops who it is made by..dang...I know it has glow in the dark buttons!

Years back when aftermarket starters came out I did a few bulldogs.
Been years though..but I know how they work but could not figure out how they got past the pats.

For some reason it won't let me multi quote.
