Yea i Put them on last night, Also got the steering stablizer, thats great but i havent wheeled yet, im goint ommowrrow morning so ill see.

Your stock lenght shocks are ok for the 2 1/2 inch lift. If you put the 4 inch lift shocks you might break stuff. Think about it all the weight of the truck hitting the when the shock bottoms out. If it is too short it just limits the droop.

Yea i know, But i love the ride, its like lil pillows under my leaf springs. =0 Joke. but they are nice, thanks alot, and I really want more droop.

JayR,
I replied to another thread but since the question is here also... The rear shocks are the same for a stock height and 2.5" lifted (Rancho lift) first generation explorer. The front shocks should be different between the stock and the lifted explorer. We went through the same thing when we put on our Duff 2.5" lift.. we bought new rear shocks when we didn't need to.

Hey i know u just replied but would shocks for a 4 inch lift work?? to gain more flex, Im thinking bout selling all my current suspentions parts in the sping and getting a superlift. O yea thanks alot! Im glad someone knew the answer. Im just thinking of scraping the 2 1/2 inch suspetiopn and 2 inch body & 33's for a 5'5 superlift, i want more flex, and i cant seem to get it.

i have the shocks w/ a 4inch lift. Is that ok? I don't do any hard wheeling and rock climbing just dirt.

What you have to watch for is bottoming out of the shock. If it is too long the shock will run out of travel before the suspension does. When this happens it is very hard on the shock and shock mounts (thing tend to bend). If the shock is too short you will limit the ammount of travel (droop) you can get.

Using the shocks for a 2.5" Rancho Lift and with OME 2.5" spring and War-153 shackles, I have a lot of flex. I travel is limited by the length of the shock. If I remove the shocks and let the axle hang (both sides) The shocks are more than 2 inches too short. If I were to just increase the length of the shocks I may end up with the shocks bottoming out. You have to do some measure to make sure everything will fit. In my case, I case raise the lower shock mount about 2" and get more droop out of the suspension without bottoming out the shock (The Tires hit the inside of the fender before I will run out of shock).

This should give you an idea of how much travel you should be able to get. If you think your shocks are limiting your travel you can remove your rear shocks (THIS IS ONLY TEMPORARY) and measure how much more flex you get compared to what you got before. Going to the OME rear springs is what gave us more flex. We were running stock springs with an add-a-leaf and did not get near as much flex as we do now (if with the shocks limiting the flex).

One other issue to watch for... We can get enough flex that the shocks will hit the axle tube. This is what prompted the idea of relocating the lower shock mount since just increaseing the length of the shock would mean I'd dent the shock faster.. :)

SOLID! SOLID! SOLID!

I'm interested in this thread.. Kinda.

Got a Superlift SOA in the rear (welded on), and that uses stock shocks. Now, I've also got OME springs, and I need new shocks for the rear (rs9000's).

I keep asking, What Size?

So, I've decided to get shocks that are about 2" longer.

We will see what the results are!
