2007 Ford Ranger 4X4
Hello Everyone,
I have a 2007 Ranger 4X4. For the past week I have been trying to resolve a charging/altenator problem. I'm at the point of going nuts with this. My battery isnt being properly charged. Sometimes when I start the engine I will get the needed 14.5v at the battery posts, but after a minute or so the voltage will drop down to just the battery voltage and slowly die from there while the engine is running. I'm out of ideas at this point. It seems like the alternator will turn off after a few moments and just run everything off the battery until it dies. Fortunetly I installed a volt gauge in the cab so when this started happening I saw it and didnt end up on the side of the road.

Everything I tried so far.

-replaced the alternator
-cleaned the battery posts and feeds
-checked for corrosion
-checked for shorts
-checked the grounds
-checked every fuse I could find
-read every forum
-had the (new) alternator/regulator tested
-ran tests on the battery
-check for loose/bad connections on the alt/reg

Things I havent been able to try yet due to weather, disablities, or lack of knowlege.

-havent tested the fusable link because I cant seem to find it.
-get under the truck and check the starter connections because of the snow

If something is causing my alternator to turn off what do you think it could be? I'm at wits end and could really use some advice.

Thanks for any help you can offer.
