Aight, my mom's new Bronc is a great ride, but it does have stereo problems. It has an older Eclipse CD HU in it, but has horrible reception and the buttons and volume "knob" are hard to use. The driver's door speaker also sounds blown.

So, for Mother's Day, I thought that I would hook her up with a basic stereo system.

Budget: $200

Needed:

-CD HU with CDRW capability. No bling needed here, would actually like to avoid bling at all costs. Ease of controls is a must!!

-(2) 6.5"s & (2) 5x7/6x8s These will never see more than HU wattage.

I break it down to this; $100 for HU, $50/pair for speakers. From quick looking at HUs, I like the Pioneer DEH1700 ($100 at CC).

It has what I want out of it, for the price I want to pay..............but if there is some MAJOR reason why I should avoid it, let me know.

About the speaks, what should I be looking at as far as $50/pair?

Does headunit need MP3 capability?

Not sure on the 6.5s, but if you look on eBay, you can get a decent set of Pioneer 6x8s for 10 bucks NIB.

I vote for pioneer as well, I still have a rock solid pioneer deck in use from when I got my first car.. It's on a boat now, but still sounds great.
