Does anybody know if Expeditions and Explorers use the same radio? Do any other Fords use the same size radio with the same wiring harness?

I'm looking to swap my AM/FM Cassette out with a CD Player from something my dad has at his dealership (yes, this is a legit swap...) but want to tell him which vehicles to look at for a donor.

Thanks!

No such thing as a dumb question.
We all had to learn some how.
I can say the fronts are the same and I can only assume the back are as well, but that is an assumption.

I think the only way you can be sure is to remove your radio and then compare to the plugs in the donor vehicle. If the donor has premium sound then it won't fit for sure. I would guess that a Ranger, Explorer and Expedition should fit but the Expedition could be different. I know that I took my CD player out of my '01 Explorer Sport and put it in a '01 F250 and it fit perfectly. Some of the newer Fords do not have the four holes in the face of the radio so those will not mount the same way as yours.

The ones that I know for a fact that will change from the 98 Explorer are the Rangers, some F-150's, and Windstars. Hope that helps some.

Rather than swapping, why not go with an aftermarket HU and be rid of the POS Ford units?

Eventually, I am getting rid of the stock Ford stuff, but I need to do a swap by Saturday morning and don't have the time to order a new unit and complete the swap. I just want to grab some kind of a CD player as I have a loooooooong road trip to go on this Saturday. Guess I shouldn't have tossed all my old cassettes, eh?

All the radios other than the specialized ones such as the MACH or the JBL systems are the same. But each radios are tuned specifically for the car. If possible, find one that's a '98-'01 4-door Explorer if you want it to sound good for your rig.

There are some variations in the plugs. Certain years vs vechicle are different.
