really hot front hubs and rims

hello ? have just a simple question for yah? went to the garage yesterday for inspection found only wheel bearings loose so they tightened them up ? today whent for a drive and after about 10 clicks or so i noticed the 1994 explorer loosing power and i had a weird smell so when i got home i got out and put my hand on the hubs and rims?ouch were they hot and steaming a little ? now my question is did they put the bearings to tight or is something else binding? took apart today and regreesed bolth bearings but never went for a drive yet ? could it be it was that? checked brakes there not grabbing?

how did the bearings look? it is possible that the bearings were overtightened... but if it forced things to get hot, there should have been evidence of that on the bearings, blackening or blueing of the metal, galling, scratching, etc
