Rear brake line rusted through/powersteering question

The other day my 95 explorer developed a hole in the metal rear brake line that runs the length of the axle. From what I have read, the line is 3/16 diameter. I went to my local autozone and all they sell is the pre flared lenghts of line. My question is, will the fittings on these preflared lines work on the explorer? Are the explorer fittings sae or metric?

Also, my explorer leaks a lot of power steering fluid. From what I can see, there appears to be a lot of fluid on the power steering pressure hose. However, if i were to replace it, it seems as if there is no room to fit a wrench on the bottom connection. Is there any tips or tricks on removing the bottom fitting?

Take the brake line off and take it up there (in a different vehicle obviously) and have them match up the threads. The flared ends are the same on all vehicles just make sure the threads are right.

Be very careful with that statement. That is not entirely true and could get someone in trouble. i.e. single or double flare, and there are different angles now being used. (not on a gen II though) Also, if split seam tubing is being used, that is not really recommended for brake lines...even though many use it.
 






Do you have rear drum or rear disc brakes? what's the condition of the flex line/lines? Do the bleeder screws come out of the wheel cylinder/calipers?

The brake lines should be a double flared, SAE fitting

Pre-made lines will work, you will want to measure the length from the rear flex line to the wheel cylinder/caliper allowing for a little extra line just to be safe

here are some notes on replacing the rear brake line. You will need to make one DOUBLE flare connection:

You can always cut off the power steering line and use a deep socket. The thin, external, rack power steering lines can leak too, they are a few dollars at the dealer. Use only flare wrenches or sockets on these fittings, they can deform.
