I was bored, so he is a small write-up for the install...
8.8 Rear Diff Rock Guard install
I purchased my rear Rock Guard from Ron’s Custom Shop. I got the standard version because at the time Ron was moving shops and that was all he had in stock. Ron is a great guy and answered all of my questions very fast. The guard only took one week to get to me.
Tools and stuff…
½” ratchet set
BFH (Bif f**k’n hammer)
New bolts, 3/8” longer than stock
Differential fluid
The first thing I did was to prep the Rock Guard. It came primered, so all I did was put another coat of primer on it and then two coats of Rust-o-lium rubber spray.
While the guard was drying, I removed my cover from the 8.8 and drained the oil into a kitty litter box. This is a great time to inspect your rear for and worn or broken/cracked parts. I also cleaned the old gasket off the carrier and wiped it down.
With the cover off, the direction called for cutting the lip off of it. Instead I used a BFH to pound the edge flat. Next I cleaned the inside of the cover and the old gasket off. I sanded the outside of the cover and gave it a coat of primer. Now would be a great time to install a chrome or any other kind of aftermarket cover that you may have laying around and haven't gotten too yet.

To reinstall the cover you need to install the new bolts you bought that are 3/8” longer than stock to make up for the thickness of the guard.
Re-installation was a breeze. Place the guard over the rear cover and then place both back on the carrier. DON’T FORGET TO PUT NEW GASKET COMPOUND BACK ON THE CARRIER LIP AND COVER. I didn't, but better to put that in and not have anyone do it than the alternative.
Reinstall all bolts and torque down to spec, install new gear fluid and give it a coat of paint and you are done.
This thing has saved my rear diff on at least two occasions that I know of and from looking at the nicks on it probably quit a few more.
