recently the rear door on my wifes explorer will not always unlock, i think it might be the actuator but not sure, and what iff it wont unlock is there a way to get it to unlock with out damaging the rear door cover, any info will be greatly received.

...recently the rear door on my wifes explorer will not always unlock ...

Mine does that too, and it gets worse as it gets colder. Most of the time, I can hit the Open button 2-3 times and it will finally open. I think it just needs to a little lube, but haven't gotten around to it (it's only been doing it for a couple of years now, and I procrastinate a lot!).

Add a third one to this problem. It happens to my rear drivers side door. I took it to the dealer while still under warranty and they replaced the actuator which helped temporarily but the same thing happened again. I took it apart once since it just felt like the rod was binding to lubricate it but that was only a temporary fix as well. I'm just dealing with it now since it only happens when it's below 30 or so and a couple presses of the unlock button does the trick.

I just had the rear hatch actuator fail at just over 50K miles. More electrical junk.

My right rear door creaks and pops sometimes like hinge is having problems, but not always.

Yep, driver side and below 30. I don't think I ever had a problem with the passenger side, come to think of it...

That's not very reassuring!

its easy to take of the door, i just recommend getting a trim removal tool thats, but you can do it by hand to remove the handle cover and where the silver knob is you need to remove that trim piece whatever that is called but its really easy

My rear driver side door also doesn't unlock unless I press the unlock button several times, But like most of you it also happens only when its cold out side. Another issue I have is that some times my rear windows don't go down when I try to lower them. I have to keep trying for a while or help push them down.

I have a 99 Explorer Sport 200k miles the back glass wont open i'm assuming it's the actuator but the problem is I need glass to open to be able to take trim cover completely off to access the inside's how can you open back glass without any damage to lock or trim cover?
