Hello,

I wondered if anyone has had trouble getting the rear O2 sensor out for replacement?
I wanted to replace mine for maintenance, hoping for better gas mileage. The front two (original) came out no problem. The rear one turns tight for about two turns then doesn’t want to budge. I am afraid to put any more pressure on it, as it may snap off or round off. It was replaced with the cat back in 2001 by the dealer under warranty.

I have backed it out what it will move and sprayed the threads with sea foam and moved it in and out. No help.

I pulled the exhaust pipe and looked in, don’t see any problem, threads don’t stick down so I can’t see much. Seafoam did soak down as it’s on the inside of the pipe and the sensor. Hope it doesn’t mess up the sensor:( .

My thoughts are:
  • Leave it alone, I don’t feel like replacing the Cat at my expense.
  • Pull the cat and heat the area where the sensor goes in and hope it come apart ok.
  • Call the dealer and see what they may be willing to do as no one has touched it since they replaced it. As these things screw in by hand so easily I can’t believe they cross threaded the thing.

Thanks,

Bill

The rear O2 sensors are not used by the PCM to meter fuel. Replacing them will do absolutely nothing to help your fuel mileage.
