hi guys im in desperate need of a pair of rear shackles for the leaf springs, had a nasty experience on a farm track the other day when the bolts pulled through the shackle due to corrosion and the daily pounding up the lane to the stables. i tried getting hold of justin in newport several times but no answer as usual, any ideas where i can get a pair? the ironic thing is i bought another explorer for spares but cannot get it for another fortnight and i need mine roadworthy to tow it home. catch 22 situation? my ar$e! :D

pm kevin P, im sure he has some or can make a set for you

I got a set you can have. They are not perfect but they are solid enough to get you road worthy.
PM your address and i'll get em out to you tommorow. Then persuade Kev P to make you a set of 2" longer ones and the load sensor bracket. Then you can TT the front and you'll end up with about 1 1/2" more ground clearance!

thanks mate pm on its way! i,ll cover the postage no problem, bloody annoying really as it if happened in a fortnights time i would have been ok. now you got me thinking about lifting it as the 33" tyres fill them arches right up... :)

righto, shackles arrived this morning as soon as this rain stops their on! janolsson i cannot thank you enough mate if ever i can return the favour please let me know. now about this lifting lark i can see how the back end is done but how about the front end? any advice welcome

The front is raised simply by winding in a bolt each side where the end of the torsion bar is. If you do a seach on torsion twist or TT you should find plenty of info with photos.
So you measure floor to arch on the rear before the Kev p shackles then see how much they lift the rear then do the front to match. Took me 2 hrs all in and that included removing the old shackles that hadn't been off before.
With the one and half to two inches you gain it give you more room for bigger tyres !!

thats interesting to know i was told by someone supposedly in the know that it involved all sorts of jiggery pokery on the front end, if i had known that it would have been in the air a long time ago. now when funds allow (when being the word!) there will be a set of them shackles being ordered, but does it put any extra strain on the bushes/balljoints? my front end suspension will be replaced off the scrapper anyway as its pretty worn out by now. sorry to be a pain with a load of questions but its really interesting me now:D
