97 xlt 4 door
Hi, I just installed a set of chrome tow hooks on my 97 4 door XLT. I was thinking about doing a set for the back also. If so, how would I go about doing this. I have the bit and can get the bolts and hooks again. I just need to be shown a picture of where they can go. I also have a TT/Shackle, and an addaleaf. Any help is appreciated. Thanks

If you have a receiver hitch, just get a hitch and a shackle. Much easier to hook up to.

No, thats the thing, I am not going to get a hitch, and I don't have one, so I need to know where to mount them.:D

use ford oem tow loop. it attaches to the frame.

F87A-17A999-AA

Thats the number that was on mine. I took it off when i put the hitch on. Its plenty strong if you dont want a hitch.

or, run a big clevis ring through your stock bumper step

I angled a tow hook (downward, toward the rear) a little over a foot or so from the rear bumper. It is angled so the hook sits down from the bottom of the frame a bit (almost level).

There wasn't really a place to put it on the bottom of the frame and I wanted to set it back and have it point under the frame a little so I could keep the weight off my bumper (eventhough the 91-97 bumpers are practically bulletproof). I don't have any photos, but I hope this gives you a good idea of how I set it up. I've used it a few times and it has worked very well. I put it on the driver's side frame rail, with the weight of the gas tank on that side, it gives you a little more to work with when pulling.

Hope this helps.

This is where I originally mounted mine, but I then moved them to behind the shackle and infront of the bumper, angled down just a little... I took them off when I installed my hitch, so I don't have a pick with them behind the shackle...

But if you don't get a hitch, how are you going to mount your Uncle Booger's Bumper Dumper???

LOL, I allready cut a giant hole in my seat for that purpose

i did mine like splash man, however its more toward the rear, and angled downward, acessable with a chain and just misses the bumper with a chain

got a pic if i can find it

Just make sure you dont piss all over your own legs...haha!

Grab a six pack...

I installed the tow hooks, a pain in the azz... I have bumper extensions since a 2" body lift is on, that means more room for bolts......a pain in....... the bolt didnt fit with the bumper on, so I took it off, put the tow hooks, and remount the bumper... a pain in the........

Damn it... well, go to my web site...

With the shackles in place all you need to do is drill a couple of holes behind the shackles and get bolts that are long enough is that it?

Basically that is, it will be a lot easier if you have a body lift, because the bumper will be raise and the frame will be clear for the tow hooks....

mine are in...ill get a pic in a lil bit and post it in here

Is it possible to install the factory tow shackle on both sides?
