most of you know i blew my tranny on MT washington. I have the option of either fixing the parts (not told which ones yet) or a full rebuild, or a new one. I heard that rebuilds are often stronger then the origonals, is this true? what kit is the strongest? should i even do it on a tranny with 54,000 miles on it?

Since no one has responded yet...

I'll just toss this out to you. It's a real tough call because everyone will have a bit different opinion.

And mine is - if you know for sure a reliable, recommended tranny shop then strongly consider a rebuild.

I've done it twice, but was not able to identify any higher performance parts for it than the stock stuff they recommended.

The price between a new tranmission from a Ford dealer and the rebuilt one was about $500 ($1,500 vs $2,000 installed), not sure what it is now.

Good Luck!

I had mine done at Cottman Transmissions. They're a nat'l chain, $2600. I already had a shift kit and a higher stall converter. But that's pretty much all that's available off the shelf.
