Recall Questions

Hi.. New to this site. Lots of good info so far. I have been reading through some old posts, and I see a lot of complaints about the '97 SOHC. Just bought one a couple of months ago, no problems so far except for the A/C blend door deal (worked that one out with the seller! $650 to fix). Question is: I checked ford's website for recall info, put in my VIN and nothing was listed. I have seen a lot of talk about cam recalls, plastic tensioners, etc. Is ford full of crap or does that just mean mine has had the work done?

Also- anyone know the difference between xl and xlt - this one has power win, locks, and mirrors, what looks like xlt interior (cloth), no cd or sunroof, and manual seats, but everything else seems to be there. Only thing I can notice is the sides of the tailgate are painted to match the body rather than flat black like 99% of the others (pre 98) on the road.

Well, I've been reading through some more old threads on this thing, and it sounds like I bought the worst possible one -- 97 SOHC.

Anybody know is the timing chain warranty a recall, or does it have to go bad before the 7yrs/100K miles expires to get it fixed? (build date is 6/97 - VIN and title say for sure is 97 rig, not an early 98 - 68,500 miles).

Anybody out there have a 97 SOHC that has been problem free, and a good rig? Don't see much about that!
