Hi,
I have owned my 1997 RHD British Explorer (not sure which USA model it is similar to?) for just over one year.
I received with the car two sets of keys and two alarm / door locking remote control fobs, I have use one daily the other with spare keys was put away for safe keeping.
We are soon off to France a country where I doubt if they have ever seen an Explorer before so thought I would check out my 'spare' remote.
On pressing the single button neither the little red led lit nor did it activate my central locking or alarm.
I switched over the batteries and again nothing happened but the battery from the 'spare' remote worked in the 'main' remote.
I have read the thread on reprogramming the alarm/doorlocking device but this does not appear to be my problem as my 'main' remote works okay.
My question, are these remote control's repairable? if so are they done by your local Ford dealer or can they be repaired by a shop who deals in electronic devices?

Thanks for any help.

Our remotes must be different. We don't have lights on ours. Have you tried reprogramming them both at the same time? Maybe the lights not blinking cause its not programmed? (Doubtful, but worth a shot).

If you find it is the remote check out EBAY

If the battery was dead long enough in your spare remote, the remote would have lost its programming. When you put the battery in from your working remote into your spare remote, the programming was already lost so it wouldn't work. When you put the battery back in your working remote, it worked because the battery wasn't out for a long enough time. As was mentioned above, put a new battery in your spare remote and reprogram both remotes at the same time.
