93 XLT 4x4
Was told when I bought the X used, that it had the remote module. It is a 93 xlt. I looked inside the left rear quarter panel. There is a black box in there. It had 2 plugs on one side and one plug on the other side. On the bottom, there is a little white button, that when pressed, a small red light will light up, if the ign switch is in the run position. Is this it? I have been looking for a jumper so I can program a new FOB. Any ideas?

You'll have one hell of a time programming a new FOB to a 4x4 computer.

That's actually the 4x4 computer.

Thanks for the info. Next question is, what is the white button and red light for?

That's the self-destruct button. I'd leave now.

Thats the self test button, but it wont do anything now.

Yes as the others have already mentioned you have discovered the 4x4 module. This module receives input from the 4x4 buttons on the dash and will send power/signals to the electronic shift motor on the T-Case to toggle between 2H, 4H, and 4L

Did you get any Fobs when you bough the X? Alot of alarms/ remote devices for 1st gens were AM (after market) add ons the dealer installed. Look behind the dash and under the steering wheel for anything that obvioulsy looks not to be factory (Any funky wiring or splice connectors are dead give aways)

Maybe it doesnt have the module. Maybe the person who owned it before you made the same mistake?

I read somewhere 94's were the first to have keyless entry. If it's not somewhat out in the open, its probably not there.

No FOBs came with it. Bought one off of ebay. i think the guy made the same mistake as I did. Did some looking around behind the trim. Nothing else there. Anyone need a FOB:) Did get my gas gauge working last night though. The float had a small crack in it. Drained it out, and resoldered it. Got the idea off of here. Saved some money  Thanks for all ya'll help

 on the float repair. Taking down the tank and removing the fuel lines can be a difficult task.. Sounds like you've done it before...

was the first time I have dropped a tank in a X but I have worked on my own cars and trucks all my life. Only problem I had was unhooking the lines, but after a run to the parts store to get the right tool it was pretty easy. Easy:) considering I did it by myself. My help failed to show up. Thanks again for all your help!
