I was wondering how is it possible to use a remote start if the truck has a secure key (key with a chip). I know this is possible since a lot of people are installing remote starters without any problem. So my questions are;

1.Can someone ‘hot wire’ your truck if you have this secure key option?

2. If yes what is the sense of having this kind of security?

On our old honda, I just cut off the top of an extra key (the part with the chip) and taped it inside the steering column. That way the remote start worked. Then I got extra regular keys cut to start the car. (keys without the chips, so its only a buck or two) Sure it make it a bit easier to steal, but nobody knows what you have done anyways.

so what you are saying is that it is not possible to use remote start in this case if you don't have the chip close by?

you will have to install a bypass or disconnect your pats system better to install the bypasswhere the pats system still works

so what do you have to bypass? so if i do this the pats would still so work so that they truck would not be stolen?

Buy the bypass module made for FORD PATS and not the universal one that requires a programmed key. If you do use one that needs the key, DO NOT get it cut.

The bypass module only works when the alarm sends a signal to it while remote starting...

Thanks blitzk, this module shounds like the best thing to use since i would still have the security of the PATS. Do you know how much this module cost?

If i get a bypass the needs to use the 1 key i have will a non chip key work. My thought is if the remote start, starts my X when i use a non chip key to release the streeing lock it should work eh?

hmmm your answer was already in this thread, I replied to your question on the other thread anyway
