Replace spindle bearing?

Ive never had to replace one yet but my guess would be you could knock it out using a socket the right diamiter and a hammer to hit it out. Then do the same to install it. This is how I have done the races on the disk brakes.

This is not a difficule job at all. No special tools are needed. I wrecked mine when I tried to remove it to grase the thing. I went to the dealer and bought a new one , they are not expensive. Just follow the procedure in the Haynes Manual.

I am in the midst of repacing my spindle bearings and have run into a replacement part snag. I have removed the old parts and picked up an new bearing, inner seal, and outer seals. The inner seal is metal&rubber and sits on top of the bearing to keep it in place. The replacement inner seal is just rubber. The old seal is a metal sleeve with a rubber o-ring looking piece that is fused/crimped to it. I have tried to remove the old piece but it wont budge. So when you did your job did you:
1. Get a new metal sleeve/seal
2. Reuse the old metal seal (mine look fine).
3. Or somehow fit a new rubber seal into the old metal sleeve?
Basically I will reuse the old sleeve and return the inner seals if I cannot figure out how they are replaced.

Are you sure that the new seal is not just coated with rubber, and is steel inside? You could return it and get a steel type seal. If it is all rubber, I suspect that you were given the wrong seal. From your post I guess that you are working with the tapered roller wheel bearing, and not the spindal bearing that are needle bearings.
You certainly could reuse the old one if it is in good shape.

I was given the wrong one.
I'm back on track...
I am replacing the spindle bearings and have used a slide hammer to remove the old ones along with their respective bearing seals. I was given the wrong Bearing seal twice (2 diff part #'s). I had checked with several on-line parts places and 4 local AutoStores and they all pointed to the wrong parts
... I finaly got to my local ford dealer and he pulled the spindle tech sheet and found there were several changes in the first gens.
In this pic is my old seal top 2 pieces. All the places keep trying to give me the bottom rubber piece. The correct new part includes the top 2 pieces.
