1999 Explorer V8 Eddie Bauer. Fan stopped running, replaced it and the speed control. At first, you could hear the fan running, but very little coming out of any vents, and the dash controls for defrost/dash/floor didn't seem to do much. After much exploring (heh) found a broken vacuum hose going to the heater hoses (I think) and repaired that with tubing. Now, floor blows OK, defrost is maybe OK, and dash is Meh. Perhaps another vacuum leak?

There are 4 vacuum motors that open and close various doors in the heater plenum to direct air flow. I don't see why just replacing the blower motor, fan and blower control module would have any effect on the dash vents unless the motor is spinning the wrong way or the squirrel fan is incorrect. Did the blower motor come with the electrical connector attached or did you have to splice it on? Is the squirrel fan new or are you reusing your old fan?

I tried reversing the polarity on the motor. Maybe something got disconnected that I haven't seen? I wasn't around for the process of replacing the motor and fan, but I seem to recall that the cruise control works off of vacuum, and I wasn't around when the CC actuator was removed.

The cruise control does not work off vacuum. Replacing the blower motor should have nothing to do with any vacuum lines unless someone was careless and broke something. When the HVAC system looses vacuum the air only blows out of the DEFROSTER vents.

I did reuse the squirrel cage. Could that be the problem?

Probably not. If a new one was installed and it wasn't the right one for the direction the motor spins, yes.
