I have a 2002 with the 4.6L v8 engine and the infamous coolant leak. I've had it about a year and was putting off this repair because of time and expense. Recently, the temperature sensor appeared to stop working so I finally decided to get it fixed. After researching the cost of getting it done at a garage, it made me look again at fixing it myself.
I have some experience working on my cars and I can do minor to moderate repairs, but this looked a little overwhelming. It seemed like doing open heart surgery on the engine with removing so many parts and connectors. I watched a few videos and this one was the best:

I felt confident enough to face the task and decided I would just take my time and take good notes and pictures as I went. It probably took me 8-9 hours of work, but I was able to get it finished.
After testing, I got a P0201 engine code (fuel injector circuit problem). I spent another 1.5 hours yesterday to swap and clean 2 of the injectors and electrical connectors. The problem went away and now everything seems to be running so much smoother with the new manifold.
It is a big job, but the components are easily accessible because they are on top of the engine. The Dorman intake manifold was only $150 on Amazon, so it is much cheaper than paying someone else to do it. Thanks again to the forum to helped me when searching for answers while researching this project.

What were the estimates?

I think it was $575 labor and $350 parts. That is a lot of incentive.

Your feedback is appreciated. Its not really a big job but you probably gave others the confidence to fix their own.
