Hi my brothering law has a 2005 explorer we replaced the rear timming chain tensioner today. However when we put the new one in we now have a severe leak as the oil is pissing out everywhere. I feel it must be cross threaded my question is can it be fixed or do we need to get a head for the engine. No matter what we did we can not stop it leaking pulled it out again check the washer it seems to have marks more on one side than the other. And also checked to old washer and it was the same so we put back the old tensioner but oil still leaked everywhere.

I actually had this happen with my old motor when I replaced the driver's side tensioner. It it really had to tell whether they are cross threading or not because when your threading it back in, the force of the tensioner makes it go in a bit hard. I was able to tighten it enough to stop the leak.
