I will be replacing my Torsion bar insulators shortly and was wondering if the keys need to be replaced along with the pads?

I know that you have to use new bolts due to the non slip coating but I don't know whether the keys wear down or not?

Thanks

Nobody has replaced these?? :banghead:

It does not seem possible. Somebody must have done this at some time or another.

Lots of people say that Explorers never need this part replaced. Maybe thats true.

I know though that I unknowingly ran my truck with bad shocks for over 60k mi. This ruined most front end suspention component I have. Even ruined the nearly new front tires.

The keys themselves don't really wear out, so techincally you don't need to replace them. However, I've heard that you can only buy torsion keys with new kevlar pads on them, not just the pads themselves. Not sure if that is true or not.

Hmmm, thats strange I read on here that the pads cost $45 per side. The online Ford dealer quoted me $15 for each side.

be careful, i went to ford and got the same thing $18 a side there (they like me :p ) but the insulator is actually the plate in between the frame and the bar. its pretty much the adjuster plate. that pad thing is seperate, cause i still need to get some, cause right now im metal on metal with the plate.

Tar Do you know the appropriate part numbers? I got 2L225B335AA that is supposed to be the 3 Torsion pads insulators that mount under the Torsion Key.

The deeper I dig the worse this seems to get. What exactly is under the torsion key I thought the whole system contained only the following:

Torsion key
Aduster screw
insulator pads

Anybody know for sure? This is for a '98 Explorer.
