Reverse problem

One of my friends 95 explorer 5.0 awd auto lost reverse a little while ago.. Shes a girl and wasnt paying attention and she didnt know if it tried to go in and then lost it or just lost it completely... So would it be easier to just replace the band or just buy a rebuild kit and rebuild the whole trans.

My experience is pull the trans and rebuild it. I have seen several where reverse goes away and the forward gears are not far behind. When my wife's did this a piece of the broken band went between the drum and the case and cracked the case. Done deal. Needed a new case too.
