OK, first up I did a search and didnt find what I was looking for and I am new to this form so go easy on me.
Here is my prob. I have a 03 trac and today it made this god awful noise from underneath. It is a binding type of sound. When I got home I quickly crawled under it and check some stuff. At first I though U joint as that is the type of noise it is making. Well I felt all the parts searching for hot spots. All checked out good except the right front ujoint, the outer one closest to the wheel. That puppy was freaking hot. I believe that that is what is going. The wheel bearing felt hot but not as hot.
Here is my question(s). First, how common is it for this U to go? Do you think that it is going? I have replaced wheel bearings before in exploders so that is no prob. I can get a complete axel replacement, what is involed in doing this? What holds the axel in the diff housing? See where I am going with this, I can do and most likely will replace the wheel bearing, but I think it is the out U or cv that is actually going bad.
