Hi guys.
I have 04 Explorer Limited.
On the roof I have only long bars, but I would like to get cross bars, to mount bikes.
Anybody knows if I can get them from Ford, or I have to look for after market stuff, do you wich ones to get?
thanks.

You can get them from Ford or you can get them at a junk yard. Had I to do it over again for my '03 I would have opted for a junk yard and saved a few bucks.

If you go to salvage yard for crossbars, don't forget the eye screws. They are longer threads than the factory eye screws on the long bar.

That's a good point about the screws and glad you mentioned it. Not even the Ford dealer knew enough to order the longer screws....like, I thought they would come as part of the package....NOT! Another reason to hit the salvage yard.

Thanks guys!
How hard to install factory ones?
Can I get screws at Home Depot or something?
I'm going to call local junk yard as well.

Sorry to steal the thread but I have a quick question: How do you get the cross bars off? I can't figure it out. Mine are missing some of the "thumb screws" and I can't secure them. I would like to take them out to paint them and see about replacing the thumb screws. Thanks, and again, sorry about the theft of the thread. :salute:

Remove the thumbscrews. Lift the crossbar from the back and it rotates towards the front of vehicle. Once the thumbscrews are out look a bit closer and you'll see the slot. It's a drop and rotate in place style and the reverse for removing.

Hijacked!!!

Steal away! We're all friends here. If it's like my '03, once those eye bolts are removed you should be able to rotate the cross member to a vertical position from the front toward the back. It sits on that back bolt. Rotate it to a vertical position and lift straight up and out.

Thanks guys! I'll give it shot tomorrow. :salute:

How much did they run you and were the thumbscrews included? Thanks! :salute:

I had no use for mine, so I sold them on eBay.

I got all stuff from here:
