Put the Manual Locking Hubs on last weekend. Repacked the bearings only to find that one inside rotor was obviously hit with Brake Pad Rivets from. I'm glad I pulled the Hub to see this 'cause there was plenty of meat on the outside Pads.
Too thin to cut. My question is : Does the new Rotors have the Races in them already and do they come with Studs?
What year did they change from this being one expensive assembly to being able to just get Rotors and slide them over the Studs ( or is that just 2WD)?

The new rotors generally come with everything. I've used old bearings in new races with no problems. Be thankfull of what you have. Those newer hub bearings cost $200.

I just looked at the rotors that Explorer Express has and the rotors are bare. Thats what I thought. The hubs come with the studs and maybe the race for the bearings.

New rotors will have everything (except bearings, and grease seal). I would only install new bearings in new races (why take a chance when new bearings only cost $12) ...

I bought mine at autozone and they have races and studs in them

Thanks. All good news.

I have many 'toys' So I worked a deal with the Local NAPA Parts place. It's sad how the Over-the-counter customer takes such a beating after looking at his wholesale price.
If any of you buy from the same place time and time again, it's well worth opening your mouth and working a deal. It's around 40-60% savings. AND they are still making money. WHEW!

Thanks again, I wasn't happy with the thought of beating the Studs out. The Races are easy enough

Can someone explain what races and studs are? I'm a newb.

Sure. The studs are the threaded 'bolt like' things that stick out that hold your Rim on. Lugnuts screw onto your Studs.

Roller Bearings are made up of two parts. The Bearing is the part with all the Rollers in it. The RACE is the part that the Rollers roll on.

In the case of Front Wheel Hubs, The races are Pressed (tapped) into the Hub and then you Pack the bearings (load them with grease) and Slide them on the Spindle.

Ahhh, I bet I confused you more.
If you want to post your private E-mail address, I'll send pictures of a typical Race and bearing

Ahh, makes sense now, thanks alot for your help Tony, I really appreciate it.

Wow! Thats good news for me too with my 92. I didn't bother checking. I just went by your picture. This is going to be a must buy for me by the end of the month. I should be back to work in a few weeks. It will be close.
Hummm! Its leap year so I get an extra day to order. LOL!
