mabye a loose or corroded connection with the old battery was playing games with the alternator wich in turn would mess with the ecu ( i.e. alternator switching load off and on would play with the idle air mixture )

i dunno
same cables, just new battery....optima!'

i can't explain it, but those of you having problems with rough ideling check your battery...

Sounds like the computer was reset. Not to be negative, but, it may come back. I have a car with a rough idle that will come and go. Really makes me mad. I thought it was the battery and when it died and I replaced the battery it came back. I was told that maybe the alt was causing noise for the computer. The brushes finally went on it, I replaced it and the rough intermitent idle came back. I hope this is not the case with yours. Good luck.

i reset the computer several times while i was experienceing the ruff idel.

so it wasn't just a computer reset.

i wsa just flipping through my X manual b/c i just bought an X and i saw this one page: when replacing the battery you need to do this certain procedure to reset the emission/computer. i have only looked at this page for like 10secs...i shall look at it again after work. anyone know what im talking about? this might have nothing to do with your problem, but i just thought i would make mention.

That page probably outlines the proper driving procedure to let the computer relearn quicker. it probably involves first idling with all accessories off for 15 minutes, then driving x miles city, x miles highway, etc. The computer has driving cycles that as they are completed it alters it's operating parameters.

For most people, just letting the truck first return to a good idle RPM then driving for a week or so does it.
