Small issue I am having with my Explorer and you guys have always been amazing in terms of solutions.

Driving to work this morning with the A/C on the truck started acting funny. Sluggish, slow to accelerate, even shuddering at times. I had this happen before (in a rental truck), and after pulling off for some cool down time continued the rest of the trip with the windows down and never had a problem again.

Unfortunately since it was a rental truck I never solved the issue or even bothered to find out what it was. Now it's front and center and obviously will require some attention but the question is what and how painful is the repair going to be? I don't mind driving with the windows down, but I don't want to do damage to the beast either, so I would appreciate any and all help you guys can offer. THANKS!!!!

My idle is less stable with the A/C on. About every 15 seconds you can hear the A/C 'click' and the RPM's will go a bit up (about 100RPM) and then settle to about 600 RPM in 'D'. I believe this is normal.

So I think that the A/C drains some power from your engine (to put it in a non-technical way :)). I don't know what could cause those more extreme symptoms you describe.

Did you find a solution to this? I am having the same problem. It only happens when the a/c is on. it idles fine when the A/c is off. The compressor keeps kicking on and off

if its clicking (cycling) you need a recharge. I think the engine tries to keep up but with its cycling so much, it confuses the idle sensor

I just added two cans of R134 or whatever to mine...cycling gone, engine smooth
